Hi guys! Sorry, I haven't uploaded in what feels like forever BUT I finally decided to write a review on Allegiant, the third and final book in the Divergent series by Veronica Roth:
So, I LOVED Divergent! It was an amazing book, I had so much fun reading it, but Insurgent already disappointed me. The story was okay but I just lost interest in the characters and what will happen to them. And instead of not finishing the series and let it go as it was, foolish me thought maybe the next (since it's the final one) is better! - I was wrong.
Without going too much into the plot, this is what didn't work for me: Most parts were just too slow, nothing happened except how everyone tried to deal with their grief and pain. Don't get me wrong, I know those parts can be important to give the story depth. But a full book of it? That's too much.
Then we have two POVs: Tris' and Four's. Usually I love different perspectives but these were just too similar. If it wasn't for the name standing at the beginning of the chapter, I wouldn't have noticed any difference.
SPOILERS MARKED IN RED
Another thing that really bothered me was that I didn't care about the characters. Neither Uriah's nor Tris' death affected me really (I hope that doesn't sound too heartless :) I mean it's all fiction but still...). BUT compliment to Veronica Roth to actually let her die. We don't see that a lot in YA which makes this book stand out. Plus Tris didn't kill herself recklessly or stupidly but to save her city (Success!).
All in all Allegiant was not a bad book but not a good one either. Shorten the parts with no action by let's say 200 pages and we're good to go! No, but seriously - in the end I mostly just finished the book and series for the sake of finishing it.
Thanks for reading!
